Championship Chaos

Final day of the championship, thrills, disappointments and amazing escapes. Let’s start with the top of the table- Brighton are denied top of the table by Aston Villa. An 89-minute goal from Jack Grealish rescued a draw meaning Newcastle finished top, after beating Barnsley 3-0 with Perez, Gayle and Mbemba grabbing the goals.

In the playoff places Reading showed their class by beating 20th place Burton. Sheffield Wednesday lost to playoff rivals Fulham (2-1) the goals for Fulham scored by Kebano and for Wednesday, Winnall. Wednesday finished the game off with 10 men after Matias was sent off. Lastly 5th placed Huddersfield were hammered 3-0 by 12th place Cardiff.

Down at the bottom of the table there was some magic. Harry “Houdini” Redknapp did it again as his 3 games in charge consisted of 2 wins and a draw keeping Birmingham in the Chamionship. Their 1-0 win was enough to beat Bristol and stay in the Championship. Leicester’s escape is known as the greatest escape but who says Birmingham won’t get promoted next year. It all came down to goal difference on the final relegation place. With Rotherham and Wigan already demoted there was one place left. Nottingham Forest (2 time Champions league winners), Blackburn (more recently in the Premier League). Blackburn won 3-1 but it wasn’t enough as Forest won 3-0 and secured safety.

That’s the end of the end of the Championship for this year but we still have the end of the Prem to look forward to.
